Itinerary

DAY 1 – Depart to Darwin Famous Mindil Markets
Arriving in Darwin this afternoon, we will make our way and check in to our accommodation for the next 3 nights. We are lucky enough to be in Darwin on a Sunday night, so we are going to take the chance to explore the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Market. It is a major social event for the region and this fabulous local market offers over 200 stalls with nearly 60 food stalls from more than 30 countries. Time to purchase some dinner if you wish while enjoying the stunning sunset over the Timor Sea. Overnight Darwin Palms City Resort
DAY 2 – Explore Darwin Sunset Dinner Cruise
Today we enjoy a leisurely breakfast before taking in the sights of Darwin. Many people aren’t aware of the importance of Darwin during WW II. We see the new Parliament House built on the site of the Darwin Post Office bombed during the war, the port area plus the many other fascinating sights of Australia’s northern gateway. We then take a drive through Fannie Bay, popular with sailors, windsurfers and water skiers to East Point where we visit the Military Museum. Here we discover how the Japanese raids on Darwin were kept a secret from the Australian population and have now been made public. Later this afternoon, we depart for our cruise. Watch the sun setting over Darwin Habour while you enjoy a delicious seafood and local produce buffet dinner. (B,D) Overnight Darwin Palms City Resort
DAY 3 – Litchfield National Park

Today we are going to spend the day in the beautiful Litchfield National Park. Litchfield has gained the reputation as the jewel of the Northern Territory’s crown. The 65,000ha National Park has untouched rainforests, hot springs, magnificent waterfalls and stunning scenery. There will be many great photo opportunities. We stop to see the towering magnetic termite mounds standing like ancient guardians of the landscape and the magnificent Florence Fallsfrom the lookout platform. We stop for lunch at the Litchfield Café and have time at Wangi Falls for a refreshing dip, or perhaps a walk. We return to our hotel with time to relax before dinner. DAY 4 – Ghan 4 Day Expedition Gold Class, Katherine
Ready yourself for an incredible, one-of-a-kind experience on The Ghan Expedition. Beginning today, this epic four day, three night, 2979km tour will take you to some of the most remote yet captivating parts of Australia in style and luxury. After boarding the Ghan and enjoying lunch, we will arrive in Katherine. You will depart on your choice of off train tours that are included in your Gold Class Package – for example the Nitmiluk First Gorge Rock Art Cruise or the Cultural Tour. DAY 5 – Alice Springs
Today we arrive in Alice Springs ready for another day of exploration. Here you have the opportunity to embark on one of the included Off Train Excursions, taking in the delights of this famous outback town. A full day in Alice Springs gives you ample opportunity to visit the town landmarks. Come this evening, you’ll dine beneath a canopy of stars at an authentic Bush BBQ set in a strikingly lit quarry enjoying a sumptuous meal. Optional Uluru flights available. DAY 6 – Coober Pedy

After breakfast this morning you’ll wake up and rub your eyes with disbelief as we pull into the middle-of-nowhere stop at Manguri. Here, a friendly tour guide awaits ready to whisk you away for the day. Your destination – the opal mining capital of world, Coober Pedy. Venture into the tunnels and caves of this underground town, where you may even catch opal fever as you mine for riches, visit the otherworldly underground Serbian Orthodox church. Below the earth’s surface, you’ll enjoy a gourmet lunch in the most unique of locations before setting off to the stunning outback moonscape that is the Breakaways. (B,L,D) Overnight Ghan
DAY 7 – Arrive Adelaide
This morning you’ll notice a dramatic change in landscape as the rich ochre tones of the outback make way for the beautiful green fields and pastoral lands of South Australia. After breakfast you’ll have time to reflect on your journey before The Ghan rolls into Adelaide. Here we will be meet by our coach and transfer to the Adelaide City Markets for a wander around before departing on a tour of the Adelaide Oval. This now Iconic sports ground, has gone under a major renovation as you will have the opportunity to go into the back rooms and see what the general public doesn’t. DAY 8 – Homeward Bound
Today after Breakfast it is time to check out and make your way home under your own arrangements.
