  • Itinerary

    Day 1: Brisbane – Christchurch   (D)

    Today we meet our Tour Escort and fellow travellers at Brisbane International Airport for our flight to Christchurch.

    On arrival, at Christchurch International Airport, we will be met by our Driver/Guide who will accompany us to the awaiting vehicle to take us to our hotel.

    We will meet for a Welcome Dinner tonight in the hotel restaurant.

    Day 2: Christchurch  (B,L)

    This morning after breakfast we enjoy a Half Day City Tour.  See how the city centre is being rebuilt & reshaped as a city of the future, after the 2011 devastating earthquake.

    Sit back and relax whilst enjoying a 30 minute Punting in Park trip which sees us meandering along the Avon River through the lovely Botanic Gardens. With a knowledgeable and professional boatman, in straw boater and traditional dress, listen to an informative and entertaining guide to the area.

    The tour comes to an end after our included lunch.

    The afternoon and evening is at leisure. Our tour escort will let everyone know what they are doing and if you would like to join them you are most welcome to.

    Day 3: Christchurch – Omarama   (B,D)

    Enjoy breakfast this morning before we begin to travel south across the alluvial Canterbury Plains, New Zealand’s chief cropping area, then turn inland through Burkes Pass to the MacKenzie Country, named after a 19th Century sheep stealer.

    View the quaint Church of the Good Shepherd on the shores of Lake Tekapo then travel along the shores of glacial Lake Pukaki to Mt Cook Village in the Mt Cook National Park.

    The heart of New Zealand’s most spectacular alpine region is Mt Cook, at 3754 metres it’s the highest peak in Australasia. The Mt Cook National Park comprises 70,013 hectares of ice, snow, rock, sub-alpine scrub, tussock and riverbeds.

    We arrive late afternoon into Omarama, and our hotel. After check in we will meet for dinner.

    Day 4: Omarama – Dunedin   (B,D)

    This morning after breakfast we continue south down the Waitaki River Valley past Aviemore and Benmore Dams. These dams are the major source of New Zealand’s hydroelectricity.

    Reaching the east coast we travel through the lovely town of Oamaru. Continuing south we enjoy the stunning coastal scenery before we arrive over the hills in to Dunedin – “The Edinburgh of the South”. The city is set on hills at the head of a lovely harbour.

    Dunedin is renowned for its educational facilities including Otago University, New Zealand’s first university. We make our way through the CBD which features the historic Town Hall, St Pauls Anglican Cathedral and a statue of the Scottish poet Robbie Burns.

    Upon arrival at our hotel there will be time to freshen up before we meet this evening for a beer tour and tasting at Speight Brewery. At the conclusion of the tour we will gather for dinner.

    Day 5: Dunedin – Te Anau   (B,L)

    After breakfast we check out of the hotel and begin a 1/2 Day tour of Dunedin including visits to Larnach Castle and Glenfalloch Garden.

    After our included lunch in the gardens, we will begin our journey to Te Anau. Moving past the unique Lake Waihola and then through undulating farmland crossing the fast flowing Clutha River at Balclutha, we continue west, passing through the country town of Goreon the banks of the Mataura River.

    Closer to Te Anau numerous commercial deer farms are seen bordering the road and as we approach Te Anau the mountains of Fiordland National Park are easily seen in the distance.

    After our day of sightseeing to Te Anau, we check into our hotel and have the evening at leisure.

    Day 6: Milford Sound  (B,L,)

    Today after breakfast we depart for a full day to Milford Sound.

    Travelling along the shores of Lake Te Anau we reach the beautiful Eglinton Valley, climbing to Homer Tunnel, before descending through the spectacular Cleddau Canyon to reach Milford Sound where we embark on a scenic cruise of the fjord. The Sound is dominated by the grandeur of Mitre Peak and the Bowen Falls.

    Enjoy a buffet lunch while cruising the fjord before we disembark and return to Te Anau.

    Dinner this evening is at leisure and our escort will let everyone know what their plans are and anyone is welcome to join them.

    Day 7: Te Anau – Queenstown  (B,D)

    After breakfast this morning we depart and travel across rolling farmland, making our way north through the quaint settlements of MossburnAthol and Garston before we travel along the shores of Lake Wakatipu enjoying spectacular views.

    Upon arriving into Queenstown we will check-in and have some time to freshen up before meeting for dinner.

    This evening we take a cruise across Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak Station for a gourmet BBQ Dinner.

    Day 8: Queenstown  (B,L)

    This morning after breakfast we depart on a 1/2 day sightseeing tour of Queenstown. Included in the tour is the Bungy Bridge, a ride on the Skyline Gondola and visit to Arrowtown.

    Lunch today will be at Skyline Queenstown and then we return to our hotel for an afternoon and evening at leisure.

    Queenstown has a plethora of optional sightseeing activities available from jet-boating on the thrilling Shotover Jet; a jet-boat excursion along the scenic and remote Dart River; winery tours to the premier Central Otago wineries; 4WD tours into unforgettable Skippers Canyon; scenic flights; fly-fishing or if you dare – bungy jumping or tandem sky-diving! There will be an additional cost for optional sightseeing excursions.

    Or you may simply like to take a walk, do some souvenir shopping and just relax.

    Day 9: Queenstown – Franz Josef   (B,D)

    After breakfast this morning we say good bye to Queenstown and travel across the fruit-growing Central Otago region, around the shores of glacial Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea then into the rugged beauty of the Haast Pass as we travel through the Southern Alps.

    As we continue up the West Coast past wild beaches enjoy the scenic views, over mountain streams, through native rainforest and past bush-fringed lakes to Franz Josef Glacier.

    Upon arrival we will check into our rooms, freshen up and then meet tonight for dinner. Later we enjoy a visit to the Glacier Hot Poolsso be sure to bring your swimwear!

    Day 10: Franz Josef – Christchurch   (B,D)

    Enjoy breakfast this morning before we begin to travel north along the West Coast, with the Tasman Sea to the west and the Southern Alps rising steeply to the east to the town of Hokitika.

    Time permitting, we may visit the Greenstone Factory at Hokitika where a local jade-like stone, highly prized by pre-European Maori, is crafted into exquisite jewellery.

    At Greymouth we head inland for a scenic journey through the mighty Southern Alps crossing Arthurs Pass and then continue east, across the sheep and cropping Canterbury Plains and into Christchurch.

    After checking in at our airport hotel and having time to freshen up we will meet for our Farewell Dinner.
