Transfer to port today where you will board the Aegean Odyssey. Overnight in Copenhagen on ship. 

Day 4: 17 July – Copenhagen, Denmark depart 8pm

Day 5: 18 July – Aarhus, Denmark 7am – 2pm

Aarhus is a city in Denmark on the Jutland peninsula’s east coast. Den Gamle By is its old town open-air museum, with centuries-old timbered houses. Nearby are the greenhouses of the Aarhus Botanical Garden. In the center, the multistory ARoS art museum shows global contemporary works. The underground Viking Museum explores early local history. Nearby, Aarhus Cathedral has restored 14th- to 16th-century frescoes. 

Day 6: 19 July – Oslo, Norway 8am – 8pm

Two half day tours to choose from – Your tour begins with a drive past the Akershus Fortress, Royal Palace, Parliament and the National Theatre to arrive at the largest sculptural park by a single artist in the world. The unique installation of Frogner Park, more commonly known as Vigeland Sculpture Park, contains more than 200 stone and bronze sculptures, all of which were completed by Gustav Vigeland between 1924 and 1943. Among the most famous of these are The Angry Boy, The Monolith and The Wheel of Life, with each one symbolizing a different stage in the journey of mankind.

Oslo’s main street of Karl Johans Gate is a charming route which passes many of the city’s most beautiful buildings. The Stortingsbygningen is Norway’s parliament and reflects an unusual synthesis of European influences in its architectural style. By contrast, the Royal Palace, where the reigning monarch still resides, is a more traditional, classical affair. Passing around its grounds to Henrik Ibsen Street, the Nobel Institute is where every winner of the Nobel Peace Prize has been chosen since 1904. Then moving down to the waterfront, Akershus Fortress is in a strategically vital position overlooking the Oslofjord and has withstood a number of sieges throughout the ages.

Day 7: 20 July – Kristiansand, Norway 2pm – 7pm

Kristiansand has a lively fishing harbour and an old quarter, Kvadraturen, where the architecture is diverse and striking. The streets are broad but during this scenic drive through the city you will still be able observe the quadrant plan that was laid out in 1641 by King Christian IV.

Day 8: 21 July – Stavanger, Norway 8am – 1pm

The old settlement of “Gamle” in Stavanger is considered one of Europe’s best preserved settlements of wooden houses. It features over two hundred charming white cottages, all dating from the 18th and 19th-centuries, most of which are still privately owned residences. In 1975 this delightful district was identified by the United Nations as an exemplar of how well urban conservation can coexist with practical use. Gamle has plenty of galleries and handicraft boutiques to explore as well, so a stroll through its cobblestoned streets is ideal for browsing while you experience its fairytale atmosphere.

Day 9: 22 July – Flam, Norway 8am – 6pm

Two half day tours to choose from – Its route may run for just twelve miles, but the standard-gauge Flåm Railway is a masterpiece of engineering which climbs to approximately 2,845ft above sea level, traversing four levels of mountainous zigzagging track and passing through twenty tunnels, making it arguably the most dramatic train ride in Europe and one of the most beautiful in the world.

The journey from Flåm to Tvindefossen passes through some spectacular mountainside before arriving at the old Viking village of Gudvangen, which overlooks Nærøyfjord. As well as being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this beautiful inlet is rated the world’s number one natural heritage site by the National Geographic Society, alongside the Geirangerfjord.

Day 10: 23 July – Bergen, Norway 8am – 1pm

Strategically placed on the western coast of Norway, the city of Bergen is commonly believed to have been founded by King Olav Kyrre in 1070AD. In the 13th-century it became the nation’s capital and remained Norway’s administrative centre until the union with Sweden in 1804 when the position of Norway’s capital passed to Oslo, or Christiana as it was then known. In 1905 the United Kingdom of Sweden and Norway was peacefully and amicably dissolved, but Oslo remained the capital, with Bergen its second city.

Day 11: 24 July – Hellestylt, Norway 8am – 10am & Geiranger, Norway 12pm – 6pm

Leaving the village of Geiranger, the tour starts by heading through the Flydal Valley to reach Lake Djupvatn, which is usually beginning to thaw by the end of June, gradually revealing blue waters below.

Day 12: 25 July – Olden, Norway 8am – 1pm

The hamlet of Olden is spectacularly situated in one of the most beautiful valleys in Norway, the Oldendalen, at the head of the fifth largest fjord in Norway, the Nordfjord. Here, towering mountains surround lake Oldenvatnet, which owes its intense green colour to the thawingglacial water that runs into the turbulent Olden River from giant waterfalls.

Day 13: 26 July – Ulvik/Eidfjord, Norway 1pm – 6pm

A short drive from Eidfjord, at the foot of the Vøringsfossen waterfall, lies the Hardangervidda Nature Centre, a fascinating museum that has been designed to explore how different parts of nature interact, as well as the relationship between modern man and the Norwegian landscape.

Day 14: 27 July – At sea

Day 15: 28 July – Rosyth, Scotland 8am – 8pm

Two half day tours to choose from – Alive with culture and history, the capital of Scotland is a thriving UNESCO World Heritage Site. This walking tour of the Royal Mile, Edinburgh’s oldest and most historic street, will take you from the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, a route rich with medieval buildings, statues and monuments lining both sides of the street.

Dramatically perched atop a 250-foot extinct volcano, Stirling Castle dates from the 15th and 16th centuries, when it was the principal residence for Scotland’s monarchs. The castle’s turbulent history is populated with a host of celebrated figures in Scotland’s history, such as Robert the Bruce, William Wallace and Mary Queen of Scots.

Day 17: 30 July – London (Tilbury), England 8am – overnight

Day 18: 31 July – London – Wells – Dartmorr National Park

From London, we’ll set off on our adventure. Our first stop is the tiny market city of Wells, known for its Gothic cathedral and peaceful Vicars’ Close. From Wells, our path will take us from the quaint country lanes of Somerset to the heather and gorse-clad tors of Dartmoor National Park. Before the day is out, we’ll enjoy a welcome dinner together. Day 19: 1 August – Dartmoor – Port Isaac – Padstow – Falmouth

Today we’ll leave Dartmoor for the sheer cliffs of Cornwall’s northern coast – starting with a stroll around Port Isaac, the fishing village made famous by the Doc Martin television series. Next, we’ll enjoy a leisurely lunch at The Seafood Restaurant – Rick Stein’s flagship restaurant in Padstow. Here, you can take your pick from a menu of fresh-off-the-boat Cornish seafood and international favourites. Afterwards, it’s time to take it easy as we travel further west to Falmouth. (B,L)

Day 20: 2 August – Falmouth – St Michael’s – St Ives – Falmouth

After a hearty breakfast we’ll set off for St Michael’s Mount, a tidal island just off the coast of Penzance. In the buzzing village, we’ll witness life through the eyes of the islanders. There’s also time to explore the medieval castle and gardens, which are brimming with treasures and stories from the past. Next, we’ll visit St Ives, one of England’s prettiest towns, before moving on to Falmouth, where you can enjoy the evening at your leisure. (B,D)

Day 21: 3 August – Falmouth – Tregothnan – Fowey

There’s a treat for the green-fingered today: we’re off to explore Tregothnan, Cornwall’s largest estate and the historic seat of the Boscawen family. A member of the gardening team will give us a private tour of the grounds and the tea plantation, where we’ll learn all about the only tea grown in England. You’ll even get the chance to sample some local produce. Afterwards, we’ll make our way to Fowey, a historic town that hugs the steep banks of the Fowey Estuary, before settling into our hotel and enjoying dinner. (B,D)

Day 22: 4 August – Fowey

We have no set plans today, leaving you free to explore Fowey at your leisure. (B)

Day 23: 5 August – Fowey – Lyme Regis – Hawkchurch

Today we’ll make our way along the south Cornish coast with a stop at the fishing village of Polperro before leaving the countryside behind us. After visiting magnificent Buckfast Abbey in south Devon, our road will take us past the green hills and golden sandstone cliffs of Dorset. We’ll then continue to Lyme Regis, where you can walk in the footsteps of Jane Austen’s heroines. We’ll take in the sweeping views of the Jurassic Coast before we end in Hawkchurch and enjoy a farewell dinner together. (B,D)

Day 24: 6 August – Hawkchurch – Salisbury – London

Our last scenic jaunt takes us along the Old Roman Road to Salisbury, a city set in a landscape of grassy plains and rolling downs. From a town steeped in history to a modern metropolis, we’ll then head back to London, where our tour ends. Check-in London hotel for another night stay (B)
